About

The BIO5 Media Facility consistently provides high-quality research materials, dishwashing, and intellectual support to university investigators at significant cost savings.

This service allows researchers to improve efficiency, strengthen their ability to receive and fulfill grant applications, and more swiftly move their innovations forward to impact the biomedical and biological sciences. This BIO5 core service has grown to serve more than 150 UArizona laboratories and academic units since its establishment in 2007. 

As the sole Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) facility at UArizona, the Media Facility maintains a high standard of excellence and consistency. This special designation ensures product quality, batch-to-batch reproducibility, extensive documentation, and lot traceability, enabling researchers to put their trust into the facility’s products.

  • Select from more than 150 products, including microbiological, plant and mammalian cell culture media, buffers, and other custom formulations 
  • 48-72 hour fulfillment time
  • High-volume automated plate pouring
  • Dishwashing and sterilization services

All UArizona campus orders will be delivered, or you may make arrangements to pick up your order at the Thomas W. Keating Bioresearch Building at (1657 E. Helen Street).

Our Convenience Refrigerator is located on the Keating Building ground floor, SE corner. We offer 24/7 access to commonly-used products. Apply for building access at https://access.bio5.org.

Combatting COVID-19

Existing resources and equipment, staff and technical expertise, vendor relationships, and intellectual power enabled the BIO5 Media Facility to play an essential role in addressing COVID-19 with the production of:

  • Nearly 10 liters per week of viral transport media – an essential part of the COVID-19 PCR test kit
  • COVID-19 antibody test buffer
  • 400 liters per week of hand sanitizer
